Gut shot is a slow and agonizing way for the deer to die often taking up to 12 hours of more. The animals die from their own poison as you can see from a bowhunters tips on finding gut shot deer.

This, in turn, results in septic or toxic shock, which causes decreasing blood pressure and gradual organ failure. Stomach wounds are nearly always fatal, but a gut-shot deer can live a long time and can travel a long way if pushed (and will leave little, if any, blood)"

Shoots a spike deer in gut and leave him to suffer and die, he even makes mockery that he just does not feel like retrieving the deer and " probably will die in some anti-hunters yard"
There is absolutely NO mercy or compassion from bowhunters just immense pain and suffering for the animals.

Good job, you did the right thing in leaving her for the next day. She proved again that a gut shot deer if left alone will usually be found near a water source. Unfortunatly the coyotes are so bad here that a deer left overnight is usually coyote food by morning :(

It's all "congratulation" "good job" but these people do not feel any remorse to the suffering of the animals. People like us who are compassionate can feel their suffering and we would never put another living beings thru something we would never want to feel ourselves that is why bowhunters and sports hunters are all hearltess monsters!

Bowhunters says "Rage is like hitting a deer with an ax"
Reading about "rage" broadheads from other bowhunters is very disturbing not only only the savagery of this arrow but the inconsistency of the results and how the animals are nothing more then objects to "slice and dice". I hear how it does not "pass thru" because it hits a bone, break a rib, it "snaps off" some says it leaves such a large hole that even if the deer did not bleed to death they died from the guts coming out. The video is very graphic and is of a doe being hit by a rage and she is bawling and crying as the bowhunters continue to laugh and video tape. Below are some of bowhunters comments on "rage" broadheads that I found on their forum notice there is not one single concern for the animal suffering instead their concern is finding the deer especially if it's a trophy deer

But then again if you are not shooting 85 pounds what broadhead will? This is the entry wound of the buck I shot this year. "Tryed out these wicked 2-blades tonight on a doe. All I can say is Wow what a hole. I cut 2 ribs going in and 1 out. Pretty quartering shot. She went 60yds. I had great blood out both sides. Very happy with them so far." Deer-n-Beer

"The doe I shot with the Rage 2 blade was quartered away at 20 yards. Arrow (Maxima 350, 28.5", 62 lb bow) broke two ribs on entrance (4.5" entrance hole), went through the lungs, broke one rib in the front of the chest cavity, then broke the off side front leg joint. The arrow never actually came out of the deer, but there was plenty of blood from just the entrance hole." ACK

"USED THE RAGE BROADHEADS A COUPLE TIMES THIS YEAR AND HAD BAD RESULTS. I SHOOT A JENNINGS BOW SET AT 70LBS AND HAD NO PASS THRUS. "I switched to rage broadheads mid season last year and was not able to use them. I shot a doe last week with the 1.5" three blade rage broadheads. The shot caught the liver and part of the stomach. The deer went less than 100 yards and when I got to it the stomach was sticking out the entry hole the size of a volleyball. I found it less than 30 minutes after the shot (it had nothing to do with being dead and bloated). I'm hooked!
I've heard of guys who hit no vital organs and the deer went about 75 yards and died because the hole is just too big. I don't think the broadhead itself can fail, other than the blades opening in your quiver. I also shot a grouse with one and took sliced its head right off." walleyeguy_12

"Rage broad heads are horrible, my friends and I shot 6 deer with them and only recovered 1 TG it was the big buck but even he ran 200 yrds and we shot him 2x. As for arrow and and draw..I use a PSE stinger mod. to 78 lbs draw 386 arrows and 100g rage 2 blades, shot my deer at 15 yrd through the lung..no recovery..but they did give use our money back so they stand by their word.." " Rage Broadheads?
I shot a nine point on october 4 of this year. I hit it low in the front shoulder and didn't get any vitals. I watched the buck run for about 400 yards then enter a corn field. i waited about 2 hours and went to find it. It ran a total of a mile and a half befor i found it dead in a ditch. The entry hole was so big i could fit my whole hand in it. If i hadn't been using rage broadhead 2 blade i would have never found it." csmigill
"The doe I shot had complete pass through without a problem. Depending on how the broadhead enters, the blade could be against the ribs or with them. Not only are they inconsistant as far as bowhunters "good shot" with "rage" broad heads but it's expensive so when you hear the excuse of 'with the economy it's cheaper to hunt.." you know they are full of crock. Also can you imagine this barbaric weapon accidentally hitting a young child , your pet or eve an adult ? I don't think you stand a chance.

Read this simple steps to keep safe out on the road during the next 3 months and if you have teens that are driving for the first time and they live in a heavily hunted states it's especially important for them to learn how to avoid DVA's.
Here are the states most likely to have Deer Vehicle Collision/Accidents as of 2009
New Jersey and Nebraska have posted the largest increases, 54 percent. Kansas is next at 41 percent. Deer-vehicle collisions have jumped by 38 percent in Florida, Mississippi and Arkansas. Then come Oklahoma (34 percent) and West Virginia, North Carolina and Texas (33 percent).

Tip as for Avoiding Deer Collisions
* While you should always be aware of your surroundings, keep an especially keen eye around dusk and dawn. These are the periods of time when deer crossings occur most often. It can also be more difficult to see at dusk or dawn, since it is neither completely light or dark outside.
* One of the best ways to avoid deer collisions is to drive at a safe speed, especially in areas with deer warning signs. These signs are strategically placed in areas known to be frequented by wildlife. Follow the speed limit and you’ll give yourself enough time to react should a deer or any other animal cross your path.
* Whenever possible, use your high-beams when driving in areas with wildlife. Not only will they provide the light necessarily to see the road, but they can also help illuminate a deer’s eyes from afar, giving you proper warning. Flashing your lights at other drivers can alert them to a deer’s presence, but do so with caution, so not to distract them.
* If you do come across a dear, firmly apply your brakes, but try not to slam on them or swerve into another lane. While deer collisions are extremely dangerous, drivers losing control of their car to avoid them can be just as deadly.
* You could consider investing in one of the “deer whistle” products. These whistles emit ultra-sonic noise when driving over a specific speed and they are supposedly only audible to animals. Unfortunately, studies have shown them to be largely ineffective at minimizing accidents.
* Should you see a deer getting ready to cross the road or one that is already in the middle of it, loudly honk your vehicle’s horn. This will scare most deer and they’ll quickly make their way back into the woods. It also helps alert other drivers nearby to the situation.
* Finally, always keep an eye on the vehicles in front of you. Be prepared to stop suddenly, as there’s no telling when a herd may decide to cross, forcing the drivers in front of you to slam on their brakes.
If you see that a car accident with a deer is unavoidable, do not swerve, brace yourself and apply your brakes. Hitting a deer head on is a much less severe accident than swerving off the road or into an oncoming car. Most car accidents involving deer only leave minor cosmetic damage, however it can damage your radiator leading to an overheat and serious damage to your motor. If you think your damage may be severe, use caution getting out to inspect, as an injured deer may regain consciousness and attack. Otherwise, drive a safe distance away, pull off to the side of the road, and then inspect. If your radiator is leaking fluid, turn your car off immediately and have it towed to a garage. Your insurance company may require a police report to file a claim for coverage.

"Reproductive rebound is a well documented population dynamic in deer and other mammals. Deer conceive multiple embryos but the number of fawns actually born is determined by a number of complex factors including nutrition and herd density. With competition for food reduced by a sudden drop in herd numbers, younger fawns will breed and females will give birth to twins and triplets instead of single fawns.In its 1990 report, "An Assessment of Deer Hunting in New Jersey," New Jersey Fish and Game offered a detailed example of this process. Its report shows that even during hunting seasons in which killing female deer was the objective (antlerless seasons), the remaining females had increased birthrates that not only replaced the ones killed, but increased the overall size of the herd. I was amazed to discover that a Texan accountant had won a prize from the Boone and Crocket Club for bagging a trophy whitetail deer and then he was exposed when it was discovered that the rack of an animal stolen from a taxidermist in Alberta had been surgically grafted onto a smaller animal on a game farm in Mexico where they flushed it out from cover into the sights of the “great hunters” rifle.
It was John Muir, the founder of the Sierra Club who first described hunting as “the murder business.”
In a few places in the world people hunt for survival. In the past, people were forced to hunt for survival. The constituency the Sierra Club is now courting through its killer outreach program are not people who have a need to hunt for survival.
They are people who spend more money on weaponry, travel and related expenses than the value of the meat they obtain. It is not the meat they are after but the thrill of the kill.
Dick Cheney, when not shooting lawyers, describes how he loves to see the ducks tumble from the sky. I’ve heard hunters describe how pulling the trigger gives them an erection.
These are men who slaughter for pleasure. I call them perverse death deviants and I have no apologies for labeling them as such. Killing for pleasure is a sickness, no different than child molestation or rape.
There is no sport in killing an animal from a distance with a sophisticated tool designed to inflict death. The name sportsman implies that there is a fair contest. There is nothing fair about being ripped apart by high powered bullets.
Hunters target the biggest, the strongest and the best of the species they pursue. This is behavior outside the laws of ecology. It is unnatural predation and certainly cannot be condoned by credible conservationists.
Hunters defend their perverse desire to extinguish life by saying it is traditional. Unfortunately many barbaric practices are traditional. However, modern day hunting bears little relation to so called traditional hunting. Hunters today are more akin to those who eradicated the bison and took only the tongues.
Hunters were responsible for the extinction of the Labrador duck, the Passenger Pigeon, the Eastern Bison, the Plains Wolf and the extirpation of the Grizzly from most of the lower 48 states. They were not only killers they were involved in the act of specicide – the complete eradication of entire species. This was not conservation.
Hunters cite Theodore Roosevelt as a big game hunter who was also a conservationist. This is true, he was both. He lived in a time when killing for pleasure was accepted but it was also a time when racism was accepted as normal and it was considered abnormal for women to have any rights, especially the right to vote. Roosevelt did set aside land to conserve much in the same way that the British aristocracy set aside land as exclusive hunting preserves to keep out the lower classes.
The Sierra Club is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to reach out to invite killers to join the Club. The leadership of the Club believes that the over 80% of Club members who don’t take pleasure from killing must be tolerant of the less than 20% who do. They want to bring in more killers into the Club.
There is a big difference between hunting and killing. Photographers and film makers can hunt wildlife. It actually takes more skill to hunt a Mountain sheep with a camera than with a rifle. Any nimrod can pull a trigger and send a high velocity bullet unexpectedly into living tissue to shatter organs and induce shock. The photographer brings back nobility, a creature caught in its natural habitat in harmony with the world around it.
The killer watches his victim tumble from the air or crash to the ground as it chokes and gurgles on its own life blood. The photographer brings back life. The hunter brings back death.
I have been a hunter myself. I’ve never killed anything but I have stalked and hunted human poachers. I have destroyed their ships, their rifles, their nets, their longlines and their harpoons. I have snatched clubs from the bloody hands of sealers and defended myself from their attacks. My form of hunting is much fairer and gutsier than these killers who prey upon their unsuspecting and innocent victims. I target the guilty not the innocent.
Once I trekked with Kenyan rangers across the plains of Tsavo on the track of poachers. We followed their trail of elephant carcasses rotting on the ground with only their tusks removed. We found the criminals. They fired on us and killed one of our rangers. We did not kill them. We wounded two and arrested seven. They were armed with AK-47 rifles and our rangers were armed with British Enfield 303’s. We were up against a superior foe and we beat them. It was not sport. It was not fun. It was dangerous and necessary work and the objective was to save lives, not to extinguish lives.
That is the only kind of hunting that makes sense today in a world with a human population approaching seven billion. If every American exercised their “right” to kill, the ducks, geese, quail, elk, deer and other creatures would disappear quite quickly. There are simply to many of us and not very many of them.
It can hardly be an egalitarian sport if only a minority of citizens can realistically participate. Instead of encouraging hunting, groups like the Sierra Club should be discouraging the number of hunters. The nation and the world needs fewer killers of wildlife – not more.
In Europe over a hundred million songbirds are gunned down every year. Elephant populations have been reduced by 70% in East Africa since I worked on poaching patrols there in 1978. World fisheries are in a state of collapse. Wildlife is getter scarcer and there is more need now than ever for protection.
Why can’t we protect wetlands simply because wetlands need to be protected? Why is there this demand that killers are needed to help protect wetlands simply because they want to slaughter ducks? Canada geese mate for life. Shouldn’t it bother us that we shatter tens of thousands of these relationships every year? Why should we tolerate the accumulation of lead and steel shot in the marshes and estuaries? Why should we tolerate the legal murder of human beings that we label as hunting accidents, especially when the victim is a non-killer, perhaps a child some nimrod has mistaken for a deer.
The son of Sigmund Freud was walking on his own property in Quebec when a hunter shot and killed him. The killer was found not guilty because the death was ruled an “accident”.
When a stranger can kill you on your own land and get away with it, it demonstrates that our tolerance for this legal killing has gone over the top of acceptability.
One killer wrote me to say that my “radical anti-hunting” ideas were unacceptable for a member of the Board of the Sierra Club. When did opposition to killing, to the taking of life, to the extinguishment of a living creature, to the wasting of a sentient being become a radical idea?
Sometimes I think we live in such a bizarre world where advocates for life are considered radical and proponents of death are considered normal, where violence is considered acceptable and non-violence is dismissed as unpatriotic or cowardly.
Few killers question the morality of their actions. Once you have reached a stage where you can inflict cruelty and death, thoughts of morality, empathy and respect have long since vanished.
For if a killer of a deer could feel the pain and anguish of his victim or see the fawn starve because of a mother that did not return they would have little appetite for the meat.
Humans who have crossed the line into dealing death and inflicting misery have become alienated from the wonderment of life and no longer see or appreciate the magic of being alive.

A friend of mine wrote me an e-mail about a pregnant doe found in her friend’s property. She took her camera to video tape the blood trail of the poor suffered deer which went for almost a half a mile. The blood trail was on the road too, which shows how bow hunting can cause Deer Vehicle Accidents. She also traveled quite a distance trying to survive– maybe for the sake of her unborn. Please watch how bow hunted deer die every year by the millions thanks to the heartless disgusting bow hunters of America and throughout the world.

In the cases of big rack deer for trophy they will let the deer lay there to die no matter how long it takes and no matter how much suffering the deer is going thru so not to lose the trophy and will go to any extent to find the trophy buck unlike the does or the “antlerless” which can be button buck because “God forbid” you lose the buck deer to show off to other “bubba” how “important” you are that you destroyed life for the points on top of the head.

An article entitled Bow Wounding Losses THE BIG MYTH by David Samuel states: It is disquieting to know that we probably wound one deer for every animal harvested. Samuel also states: The only reason I can think of is that bow hunting is difficult, more so than gun hunting. Some non-thinking bow hunters apparently feel its better to say that they at least hit a deer than admit they didn’t harvest one. That’s really dumb logic and every time someone says they wound a deer to anyone else, even a bow hunter friend, it gives the wrong message to anyone who is listening.

Where did I get my information about creating large deer herd and big rack deer? here is one of the several sites I have found.
Hunters like to hunt deer when deer are most active and here is what I found.

What is the best time of day to deer hunt?
" Most hunters seem to prefer early and late. Deer are moving in the mornings back to their beds from feeding, and visa versa in the evening going to the fields to feed. "
"Best time to hunt deer is early morning and evening. Deer are mostly nocturnal animals; they prefer to feed at night. In the mornings, you will see them as they to into the woods to find a nice safe place to bed down for the day. In the evening, right before dusk, they start moving around, as they are hungry and want to go out again and feed."
Hunters like to say that hunting is not allowed at night which is when DVA's peaks during the fall season. The peak time according to Ontario Transportation is early morning (5am-7am) and after sunset (5pm-11pm) in NY D.E.C it says " with most of the collisions occurring between 6:30 and 7:30 AM and 4:30 and 6:30 PM" in another it says "Be especially alert driving between sundown and sunrise". Here is another ...* "Deer Vehicle Accidents are most likely to occur between 5 AM - 8 AM and 5 PM - 9 PM." And remember this... The report also confirms that most wild animal collisions occur during early morning (5am-7am) or after sunset (5pm-11pm).
**Deer hunting is permitted one half hour before sunrise and one half hour after sunset.
PS. Most importantly is that Hunting organization are deliberately creating this large deer herd and of course antlered deer for the purpose of recreational hunting. Here is another quote among many I have found that proves they are "producing" deer for sports hunting. From a website called North American Whitetails and title of their post is "Are your deer hungry" ?
"If you're not providing the local herd with enough of the right groceries for maximum antler and body size, as well as high fawn survival, you're not enjoying the full benefits of sound management."

Another important note: Hunters are allowed to be in the forest tracking wounded deer after dark and tracking is most common in bowhunting but in shotgun hunting too. Here is a quote from tracking wounded deer site.
* "When trailing at night use a couple of the Chem Lights that you can get at WalMart for less than a buck. You don't use these as lights to see blood, but they are hung on limbs at the last blood found. That way nobody has to stand on the last blood and everyone can easily see where the last blood found is at"
"The worst thing you can do when tracking a deer at night is to head out immediately. Fear will increase adrenaline in the deer and cause it to run longer and faster, and your approaching footsteps will instill that fear. Wait 30-45 minutes before you attempt to find a gunshot or bow-shot deer, then begin your trek in the most logical direction. Just make sure you watch which way the deer ran as it flees the site."
Tips for Tracking Deer at Night
"Let the deer layup and die" will show you not only are recreational hunters cruel and heartless but how they will wait for the animals to die as to not spook him to run further from fear. Overall there are a lot of waiting and tracking to do especially from bowhunting although this pertains to shotgun too.

Lyme disease, hunting and few other facts
Hunting Will Not Eliminate Lyme Disease.
All mammals (except bats), 49 bird species and pets can serve as hosts for Lyme disease infected ticks. The tick's preferred host is the white footed mouse, not deer. The American Lyme Disease Foundation has stated that it does not recommend killing deer as a way to control Lyme Disease. Killing deer may increase the amount of food and cover available for mice, birds and other hosts, which in turn will boost their numbers and escalate the spread of the disease. If hunting is an effective means of controlling Lyme disease, then Pennsylvania -one of our nation's most heavily hunted states -would not be among the four states with the highest incidence of Lyme. Hunting will not eliminate Lyme disease.
INEFFECTIVENESS AND DANGERS OF HUNTING
Hunting Increases Deer - Car Collisions
According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, most car/deer collisions happen during hunting season. Pennsylvania's second largest insurance company (the nation's 12th largest insurer) - Erie Insurance - collected data in 1997 which showed:
- 50 % of all deer-car collision claims occurs during
October, November and December -primarily due to hunting. Hunters will claim that this is mating season but it's not. Deer mate in October - a time when the deer-car collision rate was 1600. The vast majority of deer-car collision claims - i.e. 4524 claims - occurred in November to December during hunting season not mating season. - The counties with the highest number of deer-car collisions were among the most heavily hunted counties based on statistics from Erie Insurance and the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
- Pennsylvania Deer-car collisions averaged 34 deer claims per day for the year. But on the first day of buck season the average was 157 and on the first day of doe season it was 160 - a five-fold increase!

A Veterinarian's Perspective on Bowhunting
What Happens to the Animals?
Bowhunters contend that although crippling is undesirable, most wounded animals do not die agonizing deaths, but can quickly recover. They feel that the broadhead arrow inflicts clean wounds that heal quickly. Bowhunters also like to suggest that a broadhead arrow is an efficient killing tool, with brand names such as the Ripper, Penetrator, and Terminator Doublecut.
The pretense seems to be that somehow animals develop hemophilia the instant they are struck; thus, they bleed to death: Stop all body functions with incredible speed—within 30 seconds in most cases, according to The Complete Book of Bowhunting. Contrary to these claims, most crippled animals do not recover from their wounds; rather, they routinely contract peritonitis or a septic infection.
Broadheads do not inflictclean wounds; they generally inflict dirty wounds. The main cause of infection,according to Benke, is today’s multi-bladed broadhead. As these arrows penetrate an
animal’s body, numerous hairs are clipped, often caught in the slots of the arrow blades, and distributed throughout the wound channel. The external wound opening then becomes sealed due to clotting and dried blood-matted hair. The bacteria from the clipped hairs begin multiplying in the wound. The amount of bacterial infection emanating from the wound depends on the wound location.
The animal’s general health is also an important factor affecting the time period it takes for the animal to finally die. Death eventually results one to two agonizing weeks later.

In order for an animal to bleed to death, its blood-clotting system must be overwhelmed. To overwhelm this system, the broadhead must penetrate the heart or sever one or more major blood vessels. If these are not lacerated, an animal cannot bleed to death— the body’s natural blood-clotting system sees to that.
Benke estimates that 20% to 30% of deer struck by arrows die from hemorrhaging and that 10% sustain wounds that probably heal, leaving 60% to 65% of the deer to die from infections.
Benke asserts: the average time in which broadheads cause death must be measured in weeks or days rather than in seconds, minutes, or even hours. Sadly, it is not only the crippled animals who suffer, but those hit and retrieved successfully as well. According to experts clean kills are a rarity. While the deer who are hit and retrieved successfully are not fortunate, they fare better than those who have been wounded and left to suffer. A comment from an experienced bowhunter who writes in Fins & Feathers magazine
(March 1987) assumes that the elapsed time between the initial wounding of an animal
and the animal’s final death is exceedingly long—even if the hit occurs in vital (heart or
lung) areas. The rule of thumb for bowhunters has long been that they should wait 30 to 45 minuteson heart and lung hits, an hour or more on a suspected liver hit, 8 to12 hours on paunch hits, and follow immediately on hindquarter and other muscle-only hits to keep the
wound open and bleeding. Bowhunting literature serves as its own indictment. The book Bowhunting for Whitetails says: It’s important to give them (the deer) time to stiffen and die - 20 minutes at a minimum, 30 minutes even better... just hang back and have a smoke. There is absolutely no sure way to kill a deer instantly with a bow!
The broadhead arrow is notorious for its inherent inefficiency and singular capacity to
cripple, wound, inflict pain, and prolong the suffering of animals. All 50 states have banned the .22 caliber rifle for big-game hunting because of its inadequate killing power. Given that .22 rifles are far superior to compound bows in terms of killing capability, one can infer that states have failed to institute and implement responsible and consistent hunting regulations.
A Veterinarian’s Perspective on Bowhunting
According to Steve Nusbaum MA, DVM, if the damage to the vital area is less than
severe, and if an arrow nicks an auricle rather than cuts through both ventricles, the
blessing of shock-induced analgesia (a deadening or absence of the sense of pain
without loss of consciousness) to set in can take a long time.
Consider the physiology of the deer who dies by suffocation, choking on its own blood,
or the deer who dies after an arrow penetrates the diaphragm. The presence of a highly
sophisticated nervous system in deer certainly suggests that their nervous systems
perform the same functions as human nervous systems. The presence of the same
neurochemicals in deer as in humans similarly shows that they feel pain as we do.
In recent years there has been a major shift in the way the scientific community
understands the mental life of animals, particularly mammals. Presently, researchers in
a variety of animal-related disciplines generally agree that in addition to being sentient,
mammals are consciously aware and have feelings and emotions; even though they are
more rudimentary than those of humans.
Mammals, including deer, are presently understood by scientists to have the capacity to
think. Numerous studies indicate that the mental harm that is done to an animal placed
in a stressful situation may be more injurious than that done to a person in a similar
situation because the animal’s mind, in varying degrees, focuses more on the immediate
than the distant. Thus, an animal, unlike a person, is less aware that the present anxiety
it is experiencing may be temporary. Not only does bowhunting cause real physical pain and suffering, the deer’s mental suffering is just as real, and in its own way, may be just as painful.
Bowhunting as a Deer Management Tool
The use of bowhunting as a method to control deer population densities is ineffective:
*In a February 1988 report on bowhunting at Rock Cut State Park in Illinois,
Department of Conservation biologist Tom Beissel, states: …this report recognizes that bowhunting has never been an effective tool for deer control…
* In Texas, which has more deer than any other state, Parks and Wildlife biologist
Horace Gore comments: You cannot call bowhunting a population control
measure, it is a recreational pursuit. In fact, he adds: We do not advocate
bowhunting when the objective is controlling the population.
* According to John Parker, Area Wildlife Manager for the Minnesota Department
of Natural Resources, only 3 deer were killed from the 29 bow permits issued in
the 1989 bow hunt in the Minnesota River Valley Area.
* Larry Gillette, Wildlife Biologist for Hennepin Parks, acknowledges that
bowhunters fail to retrieve a substantial number of deer they shoot and does not
advise the use of archery hunting to control deer populations.
* The Eagan City Council decided in 1993 not to allow bowhunting. This was
largely due to FATE’s (Friends of Animals and Their Environment) efforts. An
article in Bowhunter’s Hotline (Sept. 1993) regarding Eagan’s decision reported
that the Mayor of Eagan had supported bowhunting in the past; however, his
mind was changed about the sport due to the information provided by FATE.
The Mayor of Eagan, Tom Egan was quoted in the article as saying: FATE
provided me with a lot of valuable information, and I have always supported
bowhunting, but I no longer feel the rationale that it’s an efficient management
tool outweighs the safety and cruelty aspects. Also, the Mayor was reported as
saying: I think if we set loose every bowhunter in Eagan, we still wouldn’t reduce
the deer population, and the city would be less safe. He added: It isn’t feasible
for every bowhunter to shoot and retrieve five deer. They might each shoot and
wound five, but not shoot and recover five.
The above listed items clearly show the inefficiencies and ineffectiveness of bowhunting
as a population control method and deer management tool.
The Inescapable Conclusion
Those who indulge in the antiquated bow-and-arrow type of hunting knowingly commit
each living creature they hit to lingering agony, and this is true whether the wound is
eventually fatal or not. These animals endure prolong suffering before they collapse and
die.
As this report has shown, the following facts about bowhunting are inescapable:
* Bowhunting is inhumane and wasteful.
* Bowhunters do not want to talk about the wounding issue and archery wounding
is the most denied problem in bowhunting.
* Wounding and crippling losses are inevitable.
*Shot placement is, for all practical purposes, random due to the difficulty in
shooting arrows accurately. There is absolutely no sure way to kill a deer
instantly with a bow
* More often than not, poorly hit deer are lost and not recovered.
* The main cause of infection in the wound is today’s multi-bladed broadhead
arrow
* Almost all abdominally shot deer die a slow death from peritonitis with the
average time of death measured in agonizing days or weeks rather than in
minutes or hours.
* The use of bowhunting as a method to control deer population densities is
ineffective. Bowhunting is not a population control measure; it is a recreational
pursuit.
Humans are provided with the capacity to imagine for a variety of reasons. And we have
the capacity to imagine empathetically for a singular reason—we can appreciate the pain
of others without experiencing it firsthand. Balancing the needs of humans and animals
is a difficult and complex task. If communities decide that deer herds must be managed,
it is reprehensible to reduce the taking of animal life to a recreational activity for
bowhunting enthusiasts. Instead, a truly humane solution must be found—whether that
solution is to hire professional sharpshooters to observe the herd, taking the old and
infirm, or to implement an immunocontraception program for the herd.

They want you to wait till you start retrieving the deer because the deer will still be alive and very much suffering but they want the animal to die by the wounds so they do not push the deer to run any further.
